Introduction To Dragon Soul!

Introduction to Dragon Soul!

Dragon Soul is a free mobile RPG gaming app for iOs and Android. Built with a storyline and a unique playstyle, it can be easy to get hooked.
Dragon Soul was previously owned by a company named PerBlue, which has been creating games and sometimes selling them off. They've created a fascinating game which I haven't been able to experience (Android) called Dark Rivals, and an almost exact version of Dragon Soul, Portal Quest.
This game is now owned by Gree International. A disliked company (I dislike them as well in my points of view).

Spoiler Alert! If you'd like to experience the game yourself, it'd be best not to read further.
At the start, the game will go through a few scenes and a tutorial. 5 heroes cross into the screen along with an enemy hero (that is a dragon) and a few minions crossing the opposite side, where they meet in combat. A line of dialogue ensues, and they begin to fight and crush the enemy line. After victory, a strange green cloud envelops the heroes, taking 3 of them away and leaving only the 2 heroes, Dragon Lady and Unstable Understudy to venture forth. The two encounter their previous friends, now seemingly possessed by an unnatural force, supposedly the main villain of the story, Umlaut. The heroes retreat, finding a camp to rest and a gold chest, where they find an unsuspecting visitor inside. Centaur of Attention is the new hero's name, a backline archer is his game.

(Camp)

After finding Centaur of Attention, the tutorial for the game begins. The basics unfold.
The following game mechanics are shown;

  • Campaign Mode; where the story of the game is revealed and told along the levels. The campaign is sorted by Chapters. Each chapter includes multiple main levels, followed by mini levels that cannot be repeated. Each level in the campaign has 3 waves. After beating the third waves, the level is won. After it's won, certain items pertaining to the level will be given to you and put in your inventory. (P.S, there is no inventory limit.)
  • Items; Items drop from various sources, including Campaign. Items can include XP bottles, which are used to help level up your heroes, Gear, which is equipped to certain heroes to make them stronger and allows them to be promoted to the next rarity, Gold, which is used for a variety of different reasons including leveling your hero's skills, buying other items, etc, and more depending on your position in the game.
  • Hero Roster and Level System; The game will guide you to the hero roster area, where it shows you your current heroes and the one you haven't obtained yet. You start off with 3 heroes, the two that escaped the possession, and the archer you find in the gold chest. Clicking on a hero will reveal its information, stats, currently equipped and required gear, rarity, stars, and level of that hero and their skills. A hero can gain XP to level up through battles or XP bottles. XP bottles are a plentiful source of XP, and can be found mostly anywhere. When a hero increases in level, so does their stats. A hero has a cap to their level, meaning that there's a limit to the level increase. The cap depends on your current team level, which I'll explain in the next part. Your heroes also have skills they can use in battle. During battle, these skills will activate automatically on a duration, the only skill you can have access to activating yourself is the white skill, or special. I will explain this skill in a further bit. Skills are unlocked by rarity. Your hero starts off with only their special skill, at the rarity white. Their next skill, the green skill, is unlocked on the rarity green. Their third skill, the blue skill, is unlocked on the rarity blue. Their fourth skill, the purple skill, is unlocked on the rarity purple. The last skill (so far), orange, is unlocked at the rarity orange. However, the orange skill is unlocked via quests and not given to your hero automatically. Not all heroes have an orange skill. Rarity doesn't just go from White to Orange either.

    • It goes in the following order: White, Green, Green +1, Blue, Blue +1, Blue +2, Purple, Purple +1, Purple +2, Purple +3, Purple +4, Orange, Orange +1, Orange +2, Orange +3, Orange +4, Orange +5, Orange +6, Orange +7, and (not released yet) Orange +8. It is assumed that the next rarity will come after Orange 8+.

  • Rarity and Level System (Continued); The rarity promotions in between each color don't mean much to the skills. It's just a power increase. You can level your skills after every skill unlock to the same level cap as your heroes. Well, only your special and green skill. Your blue skill can only go up to -20 of your level cap, your purple skill can only go up to -40, and your orange can only go up to -80. Each level increase of your skill increases a certain part of their effects, whether it be damage, disables, effects, or healing.
That's all the tutorial tells you. As you level up, there will be more guidance on more introduced game mechanics, like PvP and guilds, one of the most valued parts of the game!

Blog Changes

Please note the following changes to this blog!
  • Background changed to a darker color
  • Swapped few gadgets around
  • Edited blog description and increased size for better viewing experience
Changes were made to reduce blandness in the background and better view, along with the fact Vainglory now lives here too. Don't get too comfy; there might be more. One game alone gets boring after a while.

UPDATE.

dragonsoulguidance.blogspot.com will now be revived as the true url.

After the previous name change towards the blog, view counts have dropped drastically and so I hope to revive the vigor into the blog by giving it its original state.

Vainglory Facebook Entry

Unfinished fanmade story by yours truly, featuring Night Shadow Taka and Elite Force Saw. Originally, this story was supposed to be finished by the 24th of April for the Facebook Entry, but I hadn't the time to finish it. It now lays unfinished, but I just might finish it sometime later.

Note that this story isn't professionally made. There are a few errors (and cringe) to be found here.

“Ugh... “ SAW stressfully, and unsuccessfully attempted to relieve the itches under his heavy armor.

He laid on the dark soil, angrily punching at his own body. The more he struggled, the worse it got.

“No time to waste away here. I’ve got a mission to complete.” Gripping the dirt beneath him, he stood firmly and wandered far into the night, searching for his target.

He walked for hours on end, persistently, trying to finish his objective quickly. As such, he was well wary of his surroundings.

“…I know you’re there.” SAW twisted his head slowly, cautiously.

He loaded his coilgun, scanning the area. Someone was nearby, and with a killing intention.

He stood there impatiently, while the bloodlust still filled the air.

After a long wait, SAW decided it was for too long.

“If you’re not gonna show yourself, then I’ll do it for YOU!” He swiftly grabs a flare out of his pocket, throwing it in the night sky.

As the area around him lit up, the masked face of an assassin did as well.

“Bloody hell…” The merc lifts his hand, preparing to arm himself with his tomahawk.

The assassin was armed with a mechanical mask and blazing blades, which looked to be hot enough to melt through even the toughest metal.

For the first few minutes, the two were locked into a staredown. Who would strike first, they both had no knowledge.

The masked warrior breaks the silence. The flare’s light disappears, and so does he.

“Oh no you don’t, I’ve got more where those came from!” SAW prepares a fleet of flares, but suddenly finds his supply emptied.

The assassin sneered under his mask, crushing the stolen lights with his hands.

“Cheeky…”

Vainglory Hero Concept: Marshall

An off-topic concept; Vainglory's been pouring heroes at a steady rate nowadays.
Grumpjaw came out like 2 months ish ago, probably only 1, and now they're releasing another hero; Baptiste.
So I decided to make a concept for the game! Just for fun, and based off my Martial Man idea.

Marshall

(Concept Art: Martial Artist with some unique looks)

Overview:

Carry Hero
Experienced martial artist with crazy skills and ramping damage.

Offense: (Melee)
75% bar; above average.

Defense:
65% bar; slightly above average.

Team Utility:
15% bar; below average.

Mobility:
50% bar; average.

Difficulty: Medium
Get Hero: 8000 Glory or 900 Ice

Skills and Perk:

Perk/Details:

Marshall

Role: Carry

Marshall is an experienced martial artist who can always outplay his foes. He can easily win a 1 v 1, and being outnumbered doesn't stop him either. Blaring his martial art skills to disable and push back foes, He can keep the danger away from his team. Marshall is best played in the lane, pairing well with ranged carries and works best with weapon builds.

Heroic Perk:

Combo Overload

Each time Marshall lands a basic attack or a successful skill, he gains a combo stack, which increases his weapon power by 10% for each stack. Marshall can have a maximum of 10 stacks. After 10 stacks has been reached and he lands another attack, all of the stacks will be consumed and he will gain an effect for the certain item he has. After the effect is activated, he can no longer activate the effect until a cooldown of 20 seconds is over. During this cooldown, he will keep all stacks and they will not be consumed by his perk.

  1. Fountain of Renewal: Buying this item first will unlock Marshall's healing perk (this cannot be changed after being bought). After the stacks are consumed, Marshall will activate a Fountain of Renewal effect on himself.
  2. Tornado Trigger: Buying this item first will unlock Marshall's attack speed perk (this cannot be changed after being bought). After the stacks are consumed, Marshall will gain 50% more attack speed for 5 seconds.
  3. Frostburn: Buying this item first will unlock Marshall's crystal slow perk (this cannot be changed after being bought). After the stacks are consumed, Marshall's basic attacks and skills will slow enemies for 25% and deal 50% of Marshall's crystal power for 10 seconds.
Stats: Levels 1 - 12

Health: 753 - 1,674
Energy: 100 - 300

Weapon: 70 - 172
Attack Speed: 100% - 120%

Armor: 20 - 80
Shield: 20 - 80

Range: 1.5
Movement Speed: 3.5

Skill A: "Lethal Lash-Out"

Marshall instantly fires a flurry of basic attacks at a nearby location, crippling all hapless foes in his range. Crippled foes are heavily slowed for 1 second and bleed.

Skill B: "Block n' Bash"

Marshall puts up a defensive stance, readying to block the next attack that hits him. He stays in this stance for 5 seconds until he blocks an attack. He can only defend against one damaging move whether it be a basic attack or skill, but after blocking the attack, he rushes the aggressor, basic attacking it and dealing extra damage for how much damage the blocked attack would've dealt. He can only rush the attacker if it is in Marshall's range.

Overdrive: Marshall can rush the attacker as long as it's in his sight. (Does not include mini-map)

Ultimate: "Roundhouse Rodeo"

Marshall unleashes the ultimate roundhouse, dealing heavy crystal damage to all foes around him, knocking them back and stunning them.

Tips:

Tip 1: Block n' Bash is useful against high power attacks that deal damage only once. Using the skill against such attacks can make the aggressor wish they'd never have attacked you!

Tip 2: Use Roundhouse rodeo when being chased down by the enemy team, or surrounded by them. This helps you make a break for it or separate the enemies during a team fight. Pairs extremely well with Ardan's ultimate if played right!

Tip 3: Use Lethal Lash-Out to slow your running victims or your pursuers!

Skins:

Default Skin,
Master Marshall (R),
Master Marshall (E),
Master Marshall (L),
Mediated Awakening Marshall (SE)

I would do a full on Lore for Marshall, but I'm lazy.
Let's just spill the most important details of his life story.
Self-taught orphan whose parents' deaths are unknown, a lone wolf, lone warrior, who's never had the experience of human intimacy.

Recommended Builds:

Aggressive Support: Sorrowblade, War Treads, Shiversteel, Tornado Trigger, Aegis, Fountain of Renewal

Warrior: Sorrowblade, Serpent's Mask, Poisoned Shiv, Journey Boots, Metal Jacket, Aegis

Rune Guide for Rune Usages

Yes, an actual guidance post!

2 setter runes: Tree, Rock, Mist, Blood, and Hail

4 setter runes: Flame, Ocean, Bolt, and River

Blood = Life Steal, Life Steal affects physical damage only.

Durability Runes:
  • Tree (+15% Max Health)
  • Rock (+20% Armor)
  • Mist (+ 20% Magic Resistance)
Usually used as an extra bonus accompanying a 4 set rune, or all three put together for heavy tanks.

Let's go down the line with viability for certain heroes!

1. Flame (25% + Basic Damage): Useful for heroes who rely on their basic attack and usually not their skills. Not that great for support heroes, and usually not viable for magic users. Flame is good for a hero who has skills with an ORANGE color. Orange colored skills are based off basic damage.

2. Ocean (25% + Skill Power): Useful for heroes who rely on skills. Mostly viable for magic users. Ocean only affects skills with a GREEN color. Green colored skills are based off skill power.

3. Bolt (15% + Attack Speed): Useful for heroes with high attack speed or good basic attack. Not viable for heroes with low attack speed or some slow tanky heroes.

4. River (20% + Energy Gain): Useful for heroes with a top tier white skill. Not viable on heroes that cannot be stacked with effects, like Shaman's or Bard's white skills. Great for high damage white skills like Wee Witch, or support/shield skills like Orc or Plant Soul.

5. Tree (+15% Max Health): Useful for basically all heroes. Usually accompanied with a 4 set rune or with another durability rune. A handy alternative if you can't decide between Mist or Rock.

6. Rock (+20% Armor): Remember that armor only defends against physical attacks, not magical attacks. Rock is useful for heroes without enough armor, or heroes with a lot of armor (because the more armor, the more armor rock gives). Remember to not use rock on Spectral Drake. Never. Spectral Drake is immune to physical attack.

7. Mist (+20% Magic Resis): Remember that magic resis only defends against.... magic attacks. Pretty much the same as rock, but with magic resis. (Always use on Spectral Drake)

8. Blood (+200 Life Steal): Remember that blood only affects physical attacks. Not magical attacks. That's magic vamp! Blood isn't needed if you have good nuff' runes with high life steal, but if not, blood's always welcome.

9. Hail (+30 Accuracy): A well hated rune. +30 accuracy isn't good at all compared to the 300 accuracy Eye of the Prize item gives at O6. I mean, it's fine for lower levels. But hail is unlocked higher. Accuracy reduces the dodge of the targeted foe by the amount of accuracy your hero has. It just makes hitting targets easier.

Hero Concept: Martial Man

Martial Man

(Concept Art: Unknownish?)

:star: :star: :star: hero

A frontline warrior who drops foes on the ground with his pressure point punches, knocks back and stuns foes with his sick round house kick, and even blocks/reflects attacks fired at him!

Martial Man can gain up to 20 stacks. These stacks boost the damage of Martial Man's special as well by Y for each stack he has, but once his special is triggered, all the stacks are absorbed.

  • X = 15% x basic damage
  • Y = 500 + 18.75 x skill level

Quest Dialogue:

"Nice muscles bro, but I got better ones" - Brozerker

"Come again?" - Martial Man

"Look at these pecs! Obviously better shines!" - Brozerker

"If you want shines, I'm the one to go to. Let's have a competition; to see who has the better, stronger muscle!" - Martial Man

"Whoever beats the other 25 times wins." - Martial Man

"Bro, I got this easily" - Brozerker

Stage 3"No Shield Too Tough" Defeat Aurum Stage 3 using Martial Man and Brozerker.

Quest Dialogue:

"But hey! There's one thing we gotta try out!" - Brozerker

"Let's see if our muscles can rip through a shield, like that would be sick!" - Brozerker

"I'm all up for it. And I know just who to test it on..." - Martial Man

Wassupernooi? I was going for Macho Maniac at first for a name, but I went with Martial Man instead to get in some Martial Arts ¯_(ツ)_/¯
Got a better name? Tell me! (☞゚ヮ゚)☞ ☜(゚ヮ゚☜)
